Another Union Jack Pillow: Strawberries & Lime

I finally completed my "Strawberries & Lime" Union Jack pillow for the little one this week. I wanted a fun color scheme and I think the pink and green fits the bill. I used the same decorative stitches as in this pillow but I didn't want to add to much quilting as the little one is likely to sleep on this one. It is now lovingly referred to as "my pillow!"

Again, I used a kit purchased last year from The Bramble Patch which included both instructions and fabric.

Here's the back. Please ignore the wrinkly fabric!

I think I need a break from Union Jack patterns for now. While I love the end result, I find the pattern a bit tedious. I suppose I need to find my next fun project for now!

Union Jack Quilted Pillow

This week's sewing project was a Union Jack pillow for DH's aunt. Since we were going to celebrate her birthday this weekend and because it's Jubilee season, I thought this would be an appropriate gift.

I used a kit from The Bramble Patch (purchased from last year's Knitting and Stitching show) and it contained the pattern and all the fabric. Finished size is approximately 30cm x 50cm.

The pattern was a touch difficult to follow. I had to work on it late at night and made a few mistakes (so probably my fault) but I worked it out in the end.

I finally got to use one of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine!

Because I had loads of scraps left over (and because I'm a glutton for punishment), I made 2 matching coasters. The witty print on the right is also used on the back of the pillow.

All packed up and ready to go :)

Charity Shop Booty...Pat The Bunny Book Set

Not much time for shopping this week but I did manage to find this really great "Pat The Bunny" book set. Recently, a good friend asked me about book recommendations for her 9 month old daughter. I know her daughter is a bit young for this set but (IMHO) I think these books are classic for young children so I had to pick it up for her.

Little miss loved exploring all the textures and the stories themselves are very sweet as well. I hope my friend's baby will enjoy these just as much :)

Oh and once again, I'm sharing this blog post over at Simple Design as part of their "Share you thrift haul" series. It's a fun way to share and see other people's thrifted finds!

Union Jack Appliqued Sweatshirt

In honor of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee tomorrow, I wanted to make something for little miss that was fun and patriotic. I got my in inspiration from a Union Jack logo'd sweatshirt that I spotted in GapKids a few weeks ago but I didn't like it's hefty price-tag. So I thought I would try my hand at machine embroidering one myself.

I've embroidered a onesie or two but never tackled a project this big. And since the weather this weekend is going to be cool and wet, I hope little miss will get a lot of use out of it!

Oh and in case anyone is interested, I'll put together a short post on how I put it all together later this week ;)
